Thai massage is similar to Shiatsu in that it seeks to restore energy flow in the body using acupressure points; however, the Thai massage also incorporates stretches and compressions. With other massage techniques, the person lays on the table while the massage is done; with Thai massage, the massage therapist moves the person in a variety of postures and stretches similar to yoga. This type of massage improves range of motion flexibility, reduces stress and is more energizing than other types of massage therapy.

Prenatal, or pregnancy, massage is very popular among expectant mothers. This type of massage should only be done by a massage therapist who is certified to do prenatal massage because they must know how to position and support a woman’s body during the massage. Certain massage techniques are modified to reduce strain on the expectant mother and the baby. This type of massage is customized the pregnant woman’s needs and may be used for stress reduction, pain relief, inflammation and swelling and anxiety.
