Manicure Basics: How to Ensure Your Nails Stay Nice on Vacation

I am so excited about my upcoming vacation, but I know how hard it can be to keep my manicure nails looking new during my trip. I decided to put together a guide to help others that also like to jazz up their hands before heading out of town!
Once you get to your destination, you probably will not have time to get a new manicure or to go in for a fix. If you want your nails to look their best, take the following three simple tips to heart.

1. Give them a trim.

Long nails only lead to trouble on vacation. If you want to let them grow when you are home, that is perfectly fine. However, give them a trim before packing your bags. Most people use their hands often on vacation. You have to carry your bags, unload the car, and unpack in your rental space, for example. That means that longer nails have a higher likelihood of chipping or breaking. Shorter nails are easier to maintain when you are away from home, and they feel better as well.
Also, make sure to pack nails file before you leave. Put it in a place where you have easy access to it. Files are small, so they don’t take up much room, but they can be a lifesaver when it comes to your nails!

2. Consider a partial polish.

Many people like acrylic or gel nails. Therefore, a partial polish, like French tips, is often the answer for me. When I do this, I tend to leave most of the nail unpolished. I simply paint the tips to give myself a sophisticated look with less chance of chipping. However, if you really want to paint the entire nail, choose a color that is not as bold so that chips will not be as evident. A light pink is always a good choice.
In order to ensure that your nails last as long as possible, block off a longer chunk of time than normal to apply your polish. Making sure to add a top coat, for example, is extremely helpful.

3. Bring a top coat with you.

If you choose to paint your whole nail, make sure you take a clear top coat on vacation. You may be able to find a small, portable bottle that does not take up much space. Put a top coat over your nails every few days to keep them looking like new. This tactic does not take very long to do but it can make a huge difference when it comes to the life of your manicure.
